Hot Topic: Reservation for General Category

Though the title is funny for readers who are Non-Indian Residents, but it has turned to be one of the possibility to happen in India. With almost 49% reservation given to SC (Schedule Caste), ST (Schedule Tribes) and OBC (Other Backward Classes) as shown in Exhibit 1.

Exhibit 1

The list of OBCs given by the Central Government of India (click here) shows more than 200 castes/sub castes/ synonyms mentioned in the list.

1 Sep, 2007: Government Survey revealed that 40.94% of the Indian populations consists of OBC, 19.59% SCs, 8.63% STs and 30.80% are so called general category.

According to the survey, 91.4% of STs, 79.8% of SCs and 78.0% of OBCs were in rural areas. Conversely, 8.6% of STs, 20.2% of SCs and 22% of OBCs were in urban areas, while 37.7% of 'others' lived in India's towns and cities.

This means 31.9% of OBCs are living in rural areas, but Mr. Arjun Singh got to a figure 27% not raising the net reservation to 50% or else India would be laughed upon.

Lets solve the equation for people living in rural areas: 91.4% of 8.63% + 79.8% of 19.59% + 78.0% of 40.94% + 62.3% of 30.80% is equal to 74.6%.

According to this survey 74.6 % people must get reservation if rural living standards is the criteria.

Instead of giving reservation government must give compensation in senior secondary, under graduate and graduate studies to financially deprived people.

HEY TELL OUR POLITICIANS TO IMPLEMENT THIS 49.5% RESERVATION IN THE PARLIAMENT ALSO!!!
